from linked in on a discussion about how to market your design firm
New Business
Hi Everyone,
I’d like to know what you are all doing to generate new business. Let’s discuss!
-Louanne
—————–
Hello Louanne,
Yep, this is always tricky, huh?! i have recently bought some Marketing/ Communication Mgr. lists, and i have the digital copy of artists market, but still, by far, the ol’ tried and true idea of getting your existing clients to do more, or educating them that you offer more than just brochure or web design, is the fastest track. Easier to up sell (not a word i like, but you get the idea) existing Clients than to acquire new ones. And, of course, pleased Clients hopefully refer your design services to other potential Clients, their friends and colleagues. I also do a monthly email blast (please see this link: <
http://misenheimer.com/eblast-list.html >) to stay in touch, easy to unsubscribe from so that it’s not a pain to them. Thinking about doing a “snail mail” postcard to prospects too.
What about you? What are you doing or considering? Thanks!

Most Popular Position Papers |
|
I was surprised to find out recently that we’re on track for 50,000 yearly PDF downloads of our position papers. There are 51 different position papers on the site, all free, and I thought it might interest you to know which ones are the most popular.
In descending order, here they are, along with a direct link should you like to download them immediately:
Needless to say, the least popular ones covered financial management issues. |

The Ultimate Free Web Designer’s Icon Set (750 icons, incl. PSD sources) – free commercial use too
There are thousands of free icon sets out there, and every other day we see new sets being released by the design community. In fact, Smashing Magazine has been releasing icon sets for years now, too. But today’s release is particularly important. Over the last 1.5 years, Oliver Twardowski was designing and preparing an “ultimate web designer’s icon set” exclusively for Smashing Magazine and its readers. Today we release the third, final version of the set, an extensive pack with over 750 free icons (48×48px) for designers and Web developers. The .PSD-sources are available for free download as well.
The set consists of web application icons, user interface icons, e-commerce icons, general use icons, desktop icons, blog icons, smiley icons, button icons, keyboard icons, national flags icons, popular online services icons and many others.
